1. Foster Beach

Foster Beach (pictured above) is in the Edgewood neighborhood at 5200 Lake Shore Drive. Amenities include bathrooms, bike rentals, concessions and easy access to the Lakefront Trail. This beach is often less crowded than beaches closer to the city.

2. Loyola Beach

Near Loyola University, Loyola Beach has a playground, walking trail, sand volleyball courts and a large fieldhouse with indoor recreation. There are many activities, programs and events at this location.

3. Columbia Beach

Columbia Beach is a family-friendly beach with great views of downtown Chicago — also near Loyola. Restrooms are on site and tennis courts are in the nearby area.

4. Oak Street Beach

Oak Street Beach is one of Chicago’s more popular beaches. In the Gold Coast, there is a bar/cafe, volleyball courts and restrooms near the Magnificent Mile and the John Hancock Center.

5. Hartigan Beach

Hartigan Beach is a relaxing spot at 1050 W Pratt Avenue. Enjoy a playground, shallow water, uncrowded sands and rock features. No restrooms, however.

6. Marion Mahony Griffin Beach

Formerly called Jarvis Beach, Marion Mahony Griffin is a small beach in the Rogers Park neighborhood. It’s a quiet spot for swimming and lounging on the sand.

7. Lane Beach

Lane Beach is the closest beach to CTA, just a four-minute walk away from the Thorndale Station in Edgewater. There is a playground and an accessible beach walk. As a bonus, The Kathy Osterman beach is connected to Lane Beach for access to restrooms, free WiFi, water sport rentals and additional lakefront space. The start of the Lakefront Trail is also nearby.
