Ryan Field is a stadium in Evanston at 1501 Central Street. It is home of the Northwestern Wildcats and a short walk from a purple line CTA station and a Metra station on the Union Pacific North line.
Things to Know
- Walking time is less than 10 minutes from CTA and Metra.
- Travel time from downtown Chicago is about 30 minutes on Metra and more than 60 minutes on CTA, with a transfer from the red line to purple at the Howard Station required (express trains from Linden to downtown Chicago on weekdays only during rush hour).
- The closest bar to the stadium is Ten Mile House at 1700 Central Street.
From Chicago, take a red line train to the Howard Station at the end of the red line and transfer to the purple line and exit at the Central CTA Station. Walk toward the golf course and Divvy bikes on Central Street and turn right into the stadium parking lot to reach the east entrance.
As a commute hack, you can request a Lyft or Uber car at the Howard Station for a 15-minute car commute to Ryan Field.
Board a Union Pacific North train at the Ogilvie Transportation Center (OTC) in downtown Chicago or at another station on the route. Exit the train at the Central Street Station and turn right on Central Street then left on Ashland Avenue. Walking time is about 6 minutes. Trains on this route run about every two hours on the weekend, so be sure to plan ahead and look at schedules.
Tip: Metra’s weekend pass provides inexpensive unlimited rides if you’re commuting to the stadium on the weekend, which is especially useful if you are riding more than one train or commuting from OTC. Also, Union Station is a short walk away from OTC for a convenient transfer from Metra trains on the Milwaukee, HC, NCS, SWS and BNSF lines.
