Humboldt Park is a public park and neighborhood on the west side of Chicago near the Damen Blue Station and the Kedzie Metra Station (view area map). It’s a popular area with the Puerto Rican community and the park features historic buildings, lagoons, sports fields and playground. Note that gang activity and crime has historically been associated with this part of town.
Things to Know
- Neither rail station is incredibly close to the park (about 20 minutes walking time)
- Kedzie Station on the Union Pacific West line is closest to the neighborhood, but it’s not handicap accessible.
- Consider a bike ride or take Uber/Lyft to the neighborhood (new Uber riders can use promo code TransitGuide to get a free first ride).
Take a blue line train to the Damen CTA Station. From there, connect with Uber, rent a Divvy bike or walk 21 minutes west on North Avenue . Transfer to the blue line at Clark/Lake in the Loop from all other lines except red. From the red line, transfer at Jackson.
Turn right on Damen after exiting the station to reach the bikes or turn left to reach North Avenue (turn left again on North to reach the park). There are several other bike docking stations just off of North Avenue, including two next to the park.
Take a Union Pacific West train to Kedzie. From the Loop, connect with the train at the OTC Station. Once at the station, walk north on Kedzie Avenue toward the fire department. Walking time is about 17 minutes to the park or request an Uber or Lyft car. Divvy bikes are also available about two blocks from the station. Turn right on Franklin Blvd from Kedzie.
